When Laura's Away

I have been away from home quite a bit this month and while I miss Vicki, it seems she may get just a little bit more spoiled than usual.

Greg has a video of Vicki ravenously chowing down on what looks like a huge brontosaurus rib bone. However, I cannot get this video to load up. So, for now this photo will have to suffice.

Such a beautiful day and Vicki thoroughly enjoyed her morning trot today. It's good to be back!

Vicki Withdrawals

Once again I find myself away from the pugnacious one. Funny thing is that this time as I packed my suitcase, she began pulling things out. She sniffed around in the folded up stuff and just dragged half of it out onto the floor.

After the bag was finally packed and zipped up I sat down and she licked my face while generally demanding scratches. She most definitely seemed to want more attention than usual. She now sees that suitcase and knows it's not good news for her.

Well, as I wheeled the bag out the front door, she adamantly followed me right out into the hallway. She had to be picked up and placed back inside. "Be a good girl," I told her and quickly made my exit.

It's never easy leaving but coming back is always a treat.

A Rainy Day

The news these days is not so good. Earthquakes, murders, plane malfunctions in the newspaper not to mention personal issues. Never mind we all have our burdens to bear but, rain or shine, Vicki still gets her walk.

Now, unlike Vicki, I don't bound out the door enthusiastically at the prospect of scooping up her poop and dousing down her pee spots even on a sunny day. She loves to just get out, sniff around and get some socializing in all the same.

I'm thinking now it's not all so bad. I have a wedding to look forward to next week, see my family and old, old friends and we need the rain to allow things to grow. Also, Vicki put a smile on a woman's face as the woman waited in the cold rain on the sidewalk for a ride today. Maybe it's not much but perhaps if we all do a little something to make someone else feel better things will get better. It might make you feel a little bit better anyway.

Urgent Help Needed by HKDR

Months ago, I mentioned that the HKDR would have to move from its current location and they were due to move end of February to a new site. Unfortunately, the new site has been found unsuitable for use as a kennel and all of the dogs will be homeless. They have until the end of April at the current location and then they will have to move out.

They are asking for help at this time. If you can foster, adopt, make a donation or know of an appropriate site for HKDR please do what you can to assist.

Here is the letter we received by email this morning:

Dear Laura and Greg

If you have read my recent blog posts or today's SCMP story on HKDR's current situation, you will be aware that the land near Tung Chung that we had been planning to move to has turned out not to be suitable for use as a kennel.

All of our focus and efforts over the past few months have been on building a new Homing Centre there, and now we are left with nowhere to go. Swire Properties have confirmed that 30th April is the final deadline for us to leave our current Pokfulam Kennels site, which means that as from the end of this month HKDR - and that means all of the dogs - will be homeless.

We need help, and urgently.  If you are thinking about adopting a dog, please come to our kennels and have a look at those that are waiting there.   If you can foster until we sort a new site out (and we don't know how long that will take), please offer a temporary home to one of our dogs.  If you can donate money to help us pay for private boarding, or sponsor a particular dog's boarding costs, please let us know.

We have just two weeks to find a place for our dogs.  Please, please HELP.  Send out this message to all of your friends, work colleagues or database if you have one.

We also need a place to build our planned Homing Centre.  There must be someone who knows of a suitable site, so help us get the word out across Hong Kong.
