Good Girl

Vicki is a quick study. Within the 3 plus weeks since we've adopted her, she is now trained to go outside. We give her lots of attention, praise and a small treat (according to the book "Newdog" we discovered liver treats are a dog's delight). When she messed inside we wouldn't say or do anything just clean up the mess. She only pooped in our home once and peed a few more times than that. We developed a routine of walking her morning, early evening and night time. This works very well for us although I'm sure there are as many house training methods as there are dog owners. I guess for us consistency is key regarding when we walk her, where she walks (she has a favourite pee spot not too far from home) and how she is rewarded.

She is generally a good girl and the last accident she had inside happened well over a week ago. When accidents happen we just clean them up without a word. She has learned to save up her business for praise and a small treat.

  1. Vicki is certainly a HK celebrity! I remember seeing her on the HKDR site, you grabbed her up so quickly! I am so happy that she has a loving home with you, your husband and The Emperor.

How are you finding being a dog owner in HK? My fiance and I moved here about a month ago, and we are thinking seriously about adopting a dog (a pug, in fact!).

    All the best to Vicki

  2. Hi Laura,

Yes, she was only with HKDR for about 1 week. They introduced us to a couple of other dogs but as soon as we saw Exel we were taken. She really is quite the character.

We have been in HK for almost 5 years now and have always wanted a dog, now that we have Vicki, I don't know why I hesitated. Like most people here, we do travel quite a bit but the SPCA in Wanchai has large boarding facilities and I'm sure there are other places.

This is the first pug we have had. She is great around kids (when we take her for walks), she is a good watchdog, she loves lots of pets and scratches and her face is so darned expressive it melts my heart.

Hope you find a wonderful dog! Let me know how it goes.

  4. oh start, it will be 5 years in December!! Time fries (as the blue frying pan with wings on the wall of a favourite HK breakfast place states - the restaurant is aptly named The Flying Pan). Anyway, yep, yep it's all true.
