Picky Vicki
You know, for such a...ummm...well-rounded dog, Miss Vicki sure is picky. She refuses to eat any food that has beef in it. She will inhale anything with chicken, pork or even lamb but if it has the slightest trace of beef, it stays in the dish. I can only imagine that this dog sat in the lap of luxury having meals of chicken and rice cooked for her on a daily basis and probably served in a silver dish. You may think, "Oh just leave it and she'll eat it eventually." This line of thinking simply doesn't work with her. She'll rip up tissues, scratch the walls and pace around at night if she does not get her food. This month, Vicki will turn five years old and having lived 35 years in human time she knows a thing or two about getting her own way. We know the way to a happy and well-behaved Vicki is through her discerning stomach.

hi there,
ReplyDeleteI'm just a random stranger who follows the ins and outs of HKDR dogs, the blog by sally, and mandy's great pictures. I chanced upon your blog and really admire your gumption in adopting vikki!
I'm not sure how open you are to a very different, but fundamental and incredibly healthy, potentially cheap, and very benefitial diet for your dog. it's called raw feeding. have you heard of it?
dogs that are overweight, have health problems, or even underweight dogs, do very very well on it. I've been raw feeding my dogs for some time, and have family and friends who do it too.
I believe with raw feeding, (and the exercise you are giving her! and no treats! no human food!), vikki WILL lose weight, and her breath will be wonderful (e.g. my rottweiler's breath was vile.. she had a very bad yeast infection.. coat was dull. after raw feeding, she changed).
here are some good links:

good luck! I will be following vikki's progress :)
how is her house-breaking coming along?
D.
Thanks for your comments and interest in Vicki's progress. I'll check out the links on raw feeding.
ReplyDeleteWe love Vicki and want to see her healthy and strong.

Oh, I decided to use the answer to the house training question in today's posting.
ReplyDeleteThx,
